Westpac turns on AI chatbot Red as cost pressures mount

  • “Westpac said its new chatbot, known as Red, is now available for 4.9 million digital customers after being launched on Monday night, part of a more aggressive shift to digital rather than physical banking.
  • The proportion of products sold through digital channels hit 36 per cent in the half, up from 29 per cent in the previous half.
  • The number of branch transactions was down 8 per cent, and over the past six months, 40 branches were closed and more than 300 ATMs removed.”
